The rollout of the National Broadband Network is suffering from a serious lack of honesty, transparency and accountability at all levels – Government, NBN CO and retail providers – that must be addressed to restore public trust and meet Australia’s current and future digital needs, according to the Australian Greens.

The government has signalled today they will table their response to the future of Australian video games development industry inquiry by the end of 2017, 586 days late, after pressure from the Australian Greens.

Australian Greens IT spokesperson Senator Jordon Steele-John said Australia’s video games industry had put up with uncertainty from the government for too long, after the inquiry unanimously recommended ongoing investment and support on April 29 last year.

The Senate has supported a motion noting the absence of any government response to the unanimous findings of the senate inquiry into the Future of Australia’s video game development industry, and ordered a copy of the response be tabled by 3pm tomorrow.

Australian Greens I.T. spokesperson Senator Jordon Steele-John said it was time for the government to stop squandering the extraordinary opportunity and get involved In Australia’s video game industry.

The Senate has supported a motion calling on the Government to reconsider its decision and commit to a Royal Commission into the violence, abuse and neglect of people with disability in institutional and residential settings. 

“The abuse of people with disability in settings where they should feel safe and at home is prevalent and systemic, and the Government has no interest in truly addressing it”, Australian Greens spokesperson on Disabilities SenatorJordon Steele-John said today.

Almost one in two Australians living with a disability are unemployed compared to the national average of 5.4 per cent, a national disgrace according to Australian Greens Disability spokesperson Senator Jordon Steele-John.

“It is abundantly clear from Senator Fifield’s lacklustre response in question time today that the Turnbull Government has no plans to seriously address high rates of unemployment amongst the disability community,” Senator Steele-John said.

Australians need a National Broadband Network for the digital future, not further delays to an already outdated system, said Australian Greens NBN spokesperson Senator Jordon Steele-John today.

“Yesterday it was announced there would be up to 9 months delays for customers slated to connect to the NBN via Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC) to perform further testing. In practice this will mean those customers are simply waiting 9 months longer for sub-standard connectivity,” Senator Steele-John said.
