Working to achieve recognition of local governments in the Australian constitution.

Local government is an essential part of our democracy, allowing decisions to be made at the level closest to the people concerned. Local governments are in a good position to identify and respond to the needs of their community.

The Greens are committed to achieving recognition of local governments in the Australian constitution. This would provide funding security for local councils to continue to deliver the services that people expect and deserve.  The Greens are working to increasing Financial Assistance Grants. We are opposed to any further cuts to local government funding.
